A Fairytale Couple

This February I had the pleasure of working with a lovely model Destiny Kitchen-Wright and her husband Travis. We shot a fairytale-themed Mini Shoot at the Red Rocks Canyon right here in Colorado Springs. Since moving to Colorado, I have been continuously amazed by the natural beauty that can be found right in our backyards. Red Rocks Canyon is just minutes from Downtown COS and offers an expanse of walking trails, bike paths, and even equestrian trails at zero cost to anyone who wishes to visit. As a photographer, the stunning rock formations created a beautiful backdrop for our shoot.

When scouting locations for shoots in outdoor areas, especially in a state like Colorado, it’s important to consider the client’s comfort and ability to hike in potentially rocky and steep terrain. For this shoot, I had a few specific spots picked out with varying levels of hiking required. While we did go to one of the locations that required a moderate hike, my models were not up to climbing to the further locations especially when I had some fairly active prompts/poses in mind.

With couples who are willing and able, I love being able to use dynamic prompts when photographing them rather than just the usual posed photos. Stand-still posed photos are great to warm up a couple and make them comfortable in front of the camera. Not to mention they’re always some of the best photos for clients to send to family. That being said, I think prompts that get couples to move can create unique moments for me to capture genuine emotions. Helping couples find real laughter and fun is one of the greatest experiences I have had as a photographer.

Destiny and Travis were over all lovely during this shoot and I had a great time developing their gallery. Destiny can be found on Instagram as @dessnatazha.
